Mike in His Boater's Hat--Again!
Mike in His Boater's Hat--Again!
Charcoal on Paper
24" x 18"

OK! Here's yet another self-portrait playing the banjo! How many self-portraits does this guy do?!

At the time, I was really into hats, especially the boater's hat. I thought they were really cool: G-men from the 1920s wore them. They were also kind of festive hats, worn during elections and post election celebrations. As a result, I felt they were positive representations of democracy at its best.

I used this pose and self-portrait in my painting "The Only Song that I can Sing."
