I typically use very few layers to make my digital art, but for "Adrina, Line and Tone,"I used 19 layers, of which this artwork is the 19th and final layer. Each layer shows step-by-step how I made this artwork from start to finish. I used it as a demonstration and lecture for my Digital Painting course at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Spring 2024.

Along with reintegrating some tone, I have kept a lot of what are called “cross-contour lines,” from an earlier stage/layer of this artwork—see “Adrina, Line” for the cross contour variant of this drawing. Cross contour lines wrap around and across a form to describe a form’s terrain and thus amplify its volume. I use these lines rhythmically, too, to create movement, flow, energy, etc.
