I typically use very few layers to make my digital art, but for "Adrina, Line," I used 19 layers, of which this artwork is the 18th layer. (See “Adrina, Line and Tone” to see the 19th layer variant). Each layer shows step-by-step how I made this artwork from start to finish. I used it as a demonstration and lecture for my Digital Painting course at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Spring 2024.

I used a lot of what are called “cross-contour lines.” Cross contour lines wrap around and across a form to describe a form’s terrain and thus amplify its volume. I use these lines rhythmically, too, to create movement, flow, energy, etc. I kept many of these cross contour lines in “Adrina, Line and Tone” and in “Thea the Thinker, Line and Tone.”
